In September 2020, I discovered DESIGNxHUMANITY while researching not-for-profit organizations where I could hope to find roles as a Learning Experience Designer. After completing the MA-LDT program at UCD, I wanted to find a job where I can apply my newly-earned skills with an organization committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
That is where DxH comes in. This design collective and apprenticeship program pairs experienced learning creatives with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and allies who are interested in upskilling their abilities in the LX field. The organization provides learning experience products that advocate anti-racism, equity, diversity, and inclusion. I am honored and thrilled to begin working with the QA/QC team where I will have an opportunity to see all the work created by the different teams. Additionally, I am currently working as an Instructional Designer on two projects; one project is related to mental wellness, and for the other project I am working with the creator of the DOT (Deepen, Orient, Transform) Model, Dr. Ruth Diaz, to develop a train-the-trainer course.
What I hope to personally gain from my experience with DxH is to 1) continue using the skills I gained from my MA program, 2) learn new skills and become more advanced at my current skill set, and 3) add additional work to my portfolio on this website.
Most importantly, I hope the work that comes from assisting the teams at DxH lift the voices of BIPOC individuals and communities and help others learn and promote anti-racism in their lives and communities. This is us doing good work together.
